Is God for sale? THINK! The end of
all things is at hand (1 Peter 4:7) Think! The Supernatural or salesmanship:Rooted in Christ or srtuck in the mud? At present there are thousands of groups which in one way or another offer to sell to the public the product called ''self-improvement''. The chief product offered in each case is a 'new you '. With all these voices being raised, with all these methods offering essentially the same results, is it any wonder that the church, which promises 'new life' in Christ, is in danger of becoming just another voice crying in the wilderness? God, through the Church, offers the true new life. Satan can only offer that which gives eternal death. yet God's offer seems too much the ideal and too little the practical, for in fact, the church seems to be another group groping its way among the other self-help institutions. The church is lost in the maze, in the confusion, in
the proliferation of groups that appeal to the emptiness, the loneliness,
the pain, that are in the hearts of men. We can certainly deny that
the church stands out. The methods of the church have all too often
been degenerated into those of salesmanship instead of being lifted
up into the methods ordained by God. This is ironic in the light of
the fact that Satan has always been the one to imitate the methods which
God gave the church. Now it seems that the Enemy is conquering the church
by having the church assimilate his own methods. This is a harsh statement
to make, but its real harshness comes in the light of the words of Christ
that His disciples could not move mountains because of their unbelief.
And rather than deny our unbelief we have created an even greater problem;
we merely pretend that the mountains did not exist. We do not see any
mountains to be moved, only programmes to be pushed. We willingly accept
God's second or third best for us, never once asking if there might
exist something greater, dearer to the heart of God which He wishes
to bestow upon us. Let us search our hearts and do as 2Chronicles
7:14 exhorts.Amen!
