The Revelation Gifts

1. Word of Wisdom: 1Cor.12:8.
Word meaning: Gr.Sophia=wisdom, "to taste" (root word).
It is the revealing of a part of that wisdom by the Spirit. It gives us the revelation of the mind and puropse of God for a given situation.
It is the special ability to take a number of truths and use them to judge"grey areas", not discreetly resolved by a single truth. Demonstrates an unusual ability in the church to make discerning applications to practical questions on Christian living.
- Usefulness for daily living: Romans 16:19; Eph. 5:15-17; 2Tim.3:15.
- Usefulness in the Chruch: 1Cor. 1:17-24; Ac.6:3,15:28.

2. Word of Knowledge: 1Cor.12:8.
God is all-knowing. Ps. 139; Rom. 11:33.
A word of knowledge is the revealing of a part of that knowledge by the Spirit. Is is NOT the gift of knowledge.
A word of knowledge gives us the revelation of things that have been, things that are now and things that will be.
e.g. John 4:16- past & present.
Jn. 1:45-51- past.
Acts 5:1-5- past.
Acts 27:10-future.

Word meaning: Gr. ginosis. ginosko (noun form)= to know by observation and experience.
Gr.Oida= to know by gathering & use of information (having heard).
Has the motivation for knowing the content of Scriptures in details. He understands and arranges truth carefully- in a balanced way.

3. Discerning of spirits: 1Cor. 12:10.
Word meaning: Gr. diakrisis, pneumaton. Dia= through, 'krisis'= to judge, divide, distinguish.
The one who judges or distinguishes through a situation to a decision.
"pneumaton"=for spirits. Combined with diakrisis- the process of judging through a person's speech and actions to discern the spirit behind them.
* Demonstrates a unique ability to correctly judge the true spiritual level and integrity of others.

N.T. Insights- the two criteria important for developing the gift: Heb. 5:13,14.
The Inner drive to hold fast to the good: 1Thess. 5:21.
The various situations this gift was manifested: Acts 5:1-5, 8:18-23, 13:8-11, 16:16-18.
The necessity of this gift for the last days: 1John 4:1-3; 1Tim. 4:1.

The Discerning of spirits is NOT:
-the gift of discernment- i.e. all things everytime.
-finding faults in others.
-mind-reading- doesn't reveal others' thoughts, hearts, etc.

The discerning of spirits IS:
-Having insight/perception through the Holy SPirit to know whether people and or situations are motivated/empowered by satanic, human, angelic or the Holy Spirit. (See 1samuel 18:10-11, 19:23).
